Kootenay Soap is a small, family-run business nestled in the mountains of south-eastern British Columbia on beautiful Kootenay Lake.  Having been established since the early 90's, Kootenay Soap crafts high-quality, eco-friendly and vegan bath products at affordable prices.  It is with great pleasure that we may present to you some information about these products and add you to our list of satisfied customers.

About Our Products

At Kootenay Soap, we take great care in producing high-quality products made with only the finest ingredients.  Our Soaps are made with pure coconut oil, rich cold-pressed hemp oil, pure BC mountain water, electrolyted sea salts (sodium hydroxide), pure botanical essential oils, organic colours and plant-based texturizers such as poppy seeds, sesame seeds, oats, millet and cinnamon.  Our products are 100% guaranteed to be free of any animal by-products, artificial colours or chemical fragrances.  Our coconut oil based soaps form a rich, dense lather even in cold water.  They rinse off quickly and fully to leave your skin feeling squeaky clean.  Our Bath Salts, Bath Bombs, Bath Oils and Body Polish & Foot Scrub will leave you feeling fresh and pampered.  Our bath bombs are made with the finest sea  salt, rich moisturizing oil and pure botanical essential oils.

Descriptions & Information

Anise Essential Oil (Pimpinella Anisum Fruit Oil) – Made from the dried, ripe fruit of anise.

Calendula (Calendula Officinalis Flower) – Herbalists have longed used calendula to soothe inflammation of skin and mucous membranes.

Cinnamon Oil (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Leaf Oil) – Essential oil obtained from the leaves and twigs of cultivated trees.

Cinnamon Powder (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark) - Ground bark from the Cassia tree.

Citric Acid – Derived from citrus fruits by fermentation of crude sugars. We use it in our bath bombs to produce their fizzing properties and to adjust the acid-alkali balance.

Coconut Oil (Cocos Nuciferal) – A white, semi-solid, highly saturated fat expressed from the kernels of the coconut. Our coconut oil comes from agro-forestry communities in Malaysia and the Philippines. (All of our soaps)

Ginger Oil (Zingiber Officinale) - Essential oil of the dried root of ginger. Good for reducing inflammation and as an aphrodisiac.

Hemp Oil (Cannabis Sativa) – This Canadian grown seed contains the natural anti-oxidant vitamin E and sterols which blocks cholesterol absorption. Hempseed Oil is a key ingredient in anti-inflammatory skin care products because it has a low amount of saturated fatty acids and a high amount of the polyunsaturated essential fatty acids.

Lavender Oil (Lavandula Angustifolia) – An essential oil of the lavender plant.

Lemongrass Oil

Lime Oil (Citrus Aurantifolia) – An essential oil extract from lime.

Oatmeal (Avena Sativa) – Canadian oats have been used throughout the ages by women and men to soothe itchy skin.

Orange Oil (Citrus Aurantium Dulcis) - An essential oil of orange peels.

Peppermint Oil (Mentha Piperita) - An essential oil extract from peppermint leaves.

Pine Oil (Pinus Sylvestris) - An extract of various species of Pinus.

Pumice – We buy our mineral rich volcanic pumice from Mount Meager Pumice Company from British Columbia, Canada.

Rosemary oil (Rosemarinus officinalis) – The oil obtained from the flowering tops of the rosemary plant. Beneficial for hair and skin.

Sage Oil (Salvia Officinalis)– Obtained by steam distillation from the flowering tops of the sage plant. Acts as an astringent and skin freshener.

Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda, Soda Lye) – An alkali used to make soap. All soaps contain an alkali to start saponification, a fat and alkali process, which creates the soap. Many soap makers get around from declaring sodium hydroxide on their label by saying they use saponified oils or sodium (name of oil) which just means they are declaring the end process of the saponification process instead of noting all the beginning ingredients. It is impossible for oils and butters to combine and lather without an alkali substance. We list all our ingredients on our packaging.

Water – Our water comes straight from a mountain spring next to our home.
